It was that time of year once again for the team at Australian Mountainboarders to head up to the beautiful Sydney Park to provide Mountainboard Lessons for the City of Sydney. Formally known as 'Sydney Rides the Park' the newly rebranded 'Big Adventure' sure was an adventure. Rock climbing walls, cycling lessons, food trucks are just some of the many attractions The Big Adventure had to offer.
We arrived to a perfect spring day. After the hill was set up for our lessons the boys had a quick test ride. We were fortunate enough to have guest appearances from international pro riders Nicky Geerse from Holland and Evan Carlson from America join us for the day. The hill was freshly mowed and made for big airs and fun powerslides. The boys put on a great unofficial show and people started queuing up at the gate. 10 o'clock rolled around and it was time for our first lesson.
Already fully booked after the boy's short demo we were underway! Our first lot of riders were super pumped as they padded up and ran to the top of the hill for their first ride. Our lessons are broken down into 3 main sections; pads and a safety briefing, learning how to steer and stop and to finish work on any extra skills participants would like to further.
After each lesson had finished we had another line of people waiting to have a go. We had so many people that we were pre-booking lessons that were scheduled later in the day. The best thing was seeing several riders return from last years event eager to get back on a Mountainboard. The lessons were so popular that we ended up booking out all six of our lessons and put on an extra lesson so no one would miss out! The team had taught over 250 people how to ride Mountainboards in only a matter of hours. Everyone left looking very stoked on the new skills they had learnt and I'm sure we will be seeing many great new Mountainboarders come out of Sydney.
A great time was had by all and we can't wait to return next year!
