Is it hard to learn how to Mountain board?

September 11, 2019 Dylan Warren
Seth’s Mountainboard Experience

Seth’s Mountainboard Experience

I recently started Mountainboarding.  I was introduced to Mountainboarding on YouTube and I had to try it. I started by finding a board and a spot to practice. I live in Bendigo so it took a bit of searching but I found a suitable hill and put a kicker ramp at the bottom and started practicing there. Everything I learnt for the first couple months was from YouTube videos like MBS’s Mountainboards Ride Guide and Dylan Warren’s How to Ride at the Skatepark. One of the best ways to learn is to find someone who knows what they’re talking about, commit and keep trying.

Things that can scare you, and that scared me being as a beginner, was thinking that people would make fun of me because I wasn't great straight away. What you have to realize is that all Mountainboarders were in the same position as you at some point and they will be happy to help you grow and learn. Another thing that scared me was actually committing to some of the more risky moves!  Boarding down a really steep hill or trying a jump. The key is “don't think just do” and commit. Don’t overthink it.

One of the most influential days of my Mountainboarding experience was the day I went down to the Ace Hi Ranch mountain boarding day with Dylan.  There were jumps and bumps and any one could come and learn and practice. I learnt a lot about stances and tricks and how to approach jumps and other obstacles.

It’s important  to set goals. You should always set goals for yourself so that you can keep progressing. For example you might set a goal that you want to be able to ollie this high and this far in the next month. And once you've done that you could go onto learning a trick by a certain time and so on.

Mountainboarding with your friends is a great way to support one another and learn from one another, and a little bit of friendly competition doesn’t hurt and will help you push yourself to be better. Finding somewhere close to home and easy to access will facilitate more regular practice too.

Being a beginner can be daunting but hopefully I have encouraged you to just get out there, give it ago and overcome those newbie jitters!

Mountainboard Event Entertainment - Warragul's Snowfest 2019

August 1, 2019 Dylan Warren

Live entertainment is what we love at Australian Mountainboarders! We were super stoked to perform another one of our Mountainboard Stunt Show at the Gippsland Snowfest!

We have had our Mountainboard ramp setup at the Ace Hi Mountainboard Park for the past few weeks. It’s been a great opportunity to practice some new tricks and give others the opportunity to have a go. Jay Lee did exactly that! At just 14 years old, J not only dropped in the Mobile Mountains roll in ramp he hit the jump too! (The gap was even bigger then it normally is) We love seeing progression here at Aus Mountainboarders!

So, after breaking down the ramp and getting all our gear together we set off for Warragul. As I was driving down a very much back road thanks to google, I couldn’t help but notice the skies were turning very grey. As soon as the Ford Ranger pulled in to the main street of Warragul (Thank you Ford Australia for the support) it started to rain. That didnt worry our crew. The ramp was set up quick smart!

Once the ramp was set up, I ran down the main street of Warragul to make my speech about Mountainboarding to the township. The organizers at Gippsland Snowfest had crafted an amazing looking event. Ice sculptures, sled dogs, snow play areas and even a tabbagon run down main street. Truly a great site! It was time to ride…

We strapped in the top of the Mobile Mountain and did our first show. We were worried about the ramp system being wet, but as the show went on Joel and I were having to much fun and completely forgot about the rain! Apparently the rain didn’t affect the people of Warragul either, as all of our crowds were absolutely packed! We even had a grand stand! It was great to see kids and parents alike having a crack on the Learn to ride workshop all night. I’m sure we are going to see some rippers come out of Warragul in the future!

On Sunday I returned back to Ace Hi. The rain had magically disappeared and it was a beautiful day down on the Peninsula. The sun was out, the birds were chirping and it was time to rip some grass with our new Ford Ranger. During the week, as I was sitting on the bobcat making jumps at the Ace Hi Mountainboard Park I drempt up this idea of Wakeboarding in the paddocks of Ace Hi. So on Sunday we rigged up the Ford Ranger with a tow rope and off we went into the back country. Sliding around corners, jumping off cliffs and best of all flying UP hills. It was so much fun. I swear Formo had just as much fun driving the Ranger as he did actually riding. We filmed an awesome video for Instagram which you can check out here and laughed a lot. Another succesful day in Mountainboard town. Check out the video below for a full recap of the weekend:

MBS Mountainboards Pro 97 Dylan Warren II Release Party

March 26, 2019 Dylan Warren

My new pro model Mountainboard for MBS Mountainboards is live world wide! In celebration of the new board, MBS hosted a party for the release at Ace-Hi (the camp I am building a Mountainboard Park)

I started the morning by teaching a group of people how to ride. Some new to Mountainboarding and Mason returning from the Ace-Hi holiday program to shred the hill once again. Once the lesson had finished people from around Melbourne started showing up. We had a quick ride on the hill and before we new it, it was time for lunch.

We head back to the main hall to find Joel and Jay Lee in matching aprons cooking up a feast. We all sit down for some snags and watch some classic Mountainboard videos, including my new Pro Part.

Once lunch was annihilated, everyone rushed back out to the hill for a serious amount of shredding. More people had showed up, some new riders had come accross from the last weekends Mountainboard demo at the Red Hill Show. The session was heating up. There were crews riding the Boardercross, freestyle and meeting in the middle to ride the freeride section. It was so awesome to see so many people riding the hill after many months of digging!

We are still a while away from finishing the new park. Still making lots of little tweaks and getting closer to getting the freestyle finished. Watch this space we will have an update video coming soon.

Massive shout out to MBS Mountainboards, MBS Australia and Ace-Hi for hosting such a awesome day!

Looking forward to many more sessions like this in the future.

Red Hill Show 2019 - Mountain Board Demonstration

March 21, 2019 Dylan Warren

The team at Australian Mountainboarders has been performing at the Red Hill Show for 4 years now! One of the teams favorite Melbourne shows, we sure were stoked to go back once again. For those who don’t know Red Hill is a little place out on the Mornington Peninsula. Only 15 minutes away from the Mountain Board park we have been building at Ace-Hi. So the awesome thing about this years Stunt Show at Red Hill was that we could introduce people to Mountainboarding then invite them to come Mountainboarding again at Ace-Hi.

This year we had 5 shows through out the day. Each Show was 15 minutes followed by our famous 20 minute Learn to Ride Workshop. The amazing Bec had hand embroidered new Australian Mountainboarders T-shirts for the team (let us know in the comments below if we should sell them) and the boys all recieved new helmets from Australian Mountainboarders newest sponsor, Pro-Tec. The team were so stoked on their new summer look, they got straight to work. Throwing down all their favorite tricks, grabs, spins and flips. We booked out all of our workshops and the day was a huge success!

The following weekend we had the MBS Mountainboards Dylan Warren Pro 97 party at Ace-Hi. It was great to see so many people come across from the Red Hill Show to Mountainboard at Ace-Hi. I think there is going to be a strong community of riders down on the peninsula in years to come. Stay tuned for the MBS party blog coming next week.

Our next show is at the Melbourne Easter Show in Cranbourne over the Easter long weekend. The word on the street is that there is going to be an international pro rider in town! So make sure you put it in your calendar and follow our socials to stay up to date @ausmountainboarders
