G'day guys its Dylan here writing to you from China!
Last weekend we flew out to Chengdu to the MDSK Hip Hop Festival. Maybe one of Chengdu's biggest music festivals, it attracts hip hop fans across the nation... and they all rapped in Chinese (quite funny, especially the rap battles)
Anyway we were there to promote both Mountainboarding and Snowboarding with our friends at King of the Mountain. Our set up was quite legit. Sponsored by Corona we had a bar, cafe, food a DJ and a small retail shop.
The Saturday of the event we set up the snowboard display. The team hauled in a truckload of ice to fill the slope. Which was quite nice as it was stinking hot! 6 o'clock rolled around and it was time for the boys to start the show. The Dj was pumping out some crazy electronic music and the vibe was set for the afternoon... crazy. It took the guys a minute to get used to the slope as it was made out of ice but once they had it figured out the tricks started going down. KOTM had organised riders from China, Japan and Canada to fly out to throw down. The boys were spinning off and on the rail, switch tricks and even some flips. Many hi-fives were given and selfies were taken and the show turned out to be a huge success with the crowd wanting more.
Sunday rolled around and it was time for the Mountainboard show. Early that morning the snow had melted and some modifications to the ramp were made. It was time to ride! The ramp was pretty fun in the end after I deflated my tires almost to nothing so I wouldn't land to flat! I managed to do some fun grabs a few 180's and a couple of 360's. The crowd was stoked! We may have even got bigger crowds than the Saturday. After the demo was finished we invited the crowd into the arena to try Mountainboarding. I taught a bunch of kids how to ride for the first time and they were all naturals. The Mc kept the crowd entertained with information about Mountainboarding and it seemed like a lot of people are going to buy Mountainboards now.
After talking with some of the local riders it seems there is already a growing Mountainboard scene here in China. They organise their own ride days and are promoting Mountainboarding all over the country with similar events like this. Keep an eye out I think there will be some sick riders coming out of China in the next few years.
So now i'm back on the mountain in Changbaishan. After 2 weeks of enviromental delays we are finally ready to get started on the new Mountainboard park. We are doing another demo for the governor next week, so who knows that may just be my next Blog post....
